1986: Founding of Flanders Diamond Exporters nv, specializing in the manufacturing and trading of high quality polished diamonds

1988: Flanders Diamond Exporters launches its newly developed Flanders Brilliant, a new diamond cut resulting from the combined efforts of an important group of Flemish diamond experts and the Technical and Scientific Research Center for Diamonds (WTCOD), under the supervision of the University of Antwerp. Both trade name and model are internationally registered.

 

1990: Flanders Diamond Exporters introduces its new cut on the Japanese market through a joint venture Flanders Diamond Japan. This unique Belgian-Japanese co-operation is warmly welcomed by the Minister President of Flanders and the Belgian Ambassador in Tokyo.

1992: Based on the international success of the Flanders Brilliantt and numerous request for an octagonal variation, Flanders Diamond Exporters launches its latest offspring; "the Happyeight Brilliantt".

1995: The leading Japanese jewellery, manufacturer Kuwayama Corporation establishes a subsidiary in Antwerp under the name of Kuwayama Europe.

1996: Kuwayama Europe takes over Flanders Diamond Exporters and starts new production units in Russia, Antwerp, Israel and Thailand.

1999: Kuwayama Europe diversifies its markets and expands sales worldwide. In co-operation with a De Beers sightholder Moti Ganz Diamond Manufacturers, Kuwayama Europe opens Flanders Diamond Israel and Flanders Diamond USA.

 

2000: Flanders Brilliant is marketed in the USA under the trade name of Elara™

2001: Flanders Brilliant© receives the first copyright for a gemstone cut in US history. No other gemstone cut has previously been granted this level of recognition.

2002-2007:  new square diamonds models and other fancy shapes cannot compete with the brilliancy of Flanders Brilliant©
